Australian War Graves Photo Requests

Since its inception in 1999, the Australian War Graves Photographic Archive has endeavoured to fulfill its specific mission statement; to provide relatives of our brave Military Heroes, with photos of the graves and memorial commemorations, of members of the Australian Military Forces, deceased through service of their country. To date, many Australians have had the opportunity to view these locations, via photo image. For many people, most of these locations are in very inaccessible places and due to a number of reasons, they have been unable to visit the final resting place of their loved ones. Reasons for this inability to visit may include; expense of travel, advancement of age, lack of knowledge, or ill health. Via the AWGPA, these individuals, possibly with help from other members of their extended family, have the opportunity to perhaps gain some closure after decades of history.

The AWGPA offers the following opportunities to obtain copies of photos relevant to their ancestors:

Photos via E-MAIL

Requests can be made via e-mail and through attached photos, individuals can have the opportunity to view the final resting place of their family members. When making requests, the following information is useful in determining which casualty is the one that you are looking for. The following information is required:
• SURNAME
• INITIALS/GIVEN NAMES
• NEXT-OF-KIN DETAILS (Mother/Father/Wife/Husband)
• CONFLICT DURING WHICH THEY BECAME DECEASED
• ANY OTHER RELEVANT DETAILS THAT MAY BE OF ASSISTANCE.

Usually a couple of photos will be forwarded. These include a copy of the Grave or Memorial Commemoration inscription, and a photo of the cemetery or memorial, which commemorates the individual.

In order that the project may continue, we would appreciate a donation for this service. This covers costs involved only. Cheques or money orders should be made payable to 'AWGPA' and will be placed into the dedicated Project bank account or use PayPal. A reciprocal scheme has been set up, which involves the exchange of grave or memorial photos, for copies of original photos of military personnel, which will be included in the Archive. Please contact the Archive Director if you would like to contribute. This system is ideally mutually beneficial.

Photos on CD

As above, photos can be forwarded on CD. These images are higher resolution and allow for easy transportation of images. The CD can be taken to any photo imaging outlet and specific photos developed. These images can thus be multiplied indefinitely and en-larged from the usual 6x4 photo, to a size indicated ie. A4

In order that the project may continue, we would also appreciate a donation for this service. Or enter our reciprocal scheme. Please contact the Archive Director if you would like to contribute. This system is ideally mutually beneficial.

Photos in HARD COPY

Alternatively, the photos may be printed on your behalf, to a size that you request. For those people without access to computer printing facilities, this is an ideal option. This Hard Copy option provides you with high quality images of the grave or memorial commemoration, and a photo of the cemetery or memorial, which commemorates the individual. These photos will be approximately A5 size (8x5in)

In order that the project may continue, we would also appreciate a donation for this service. Or enter our reciprocal scheme. Please contact the Archive Director if you would like to contribute. This system is ideally mutually beneficial.
